This area is strictly for the under 6s. We have sourced the best storytellers for our young listeners and run a programme of 30 minute sessions each hour, throughout the weekend.

Although free, a ticket is required for author events.

Lari Don: SUNDAY 12noon and 2pm (book-signing in Sales Pitch after each session)
Author of The Big Bottom Hunt, How to Make a Heron Happy, and soon to be published Orange Juice Peas, was brought up in the North East of Scotland and now lives in Leith with her two school age daughters. Lari writes picture books, adventure books, and novellas for teenagers, and loves sharing traditional tales with all ages. Aileen Paterson: SATURDAY 12.30 and 3.30pm (book-signing in Sales Pitch after)
Author of 30 books about Maisie the cat, was born in Burntisland, on St Andrews Day 1934. Aileen attended Burntisland Primary School, then Kirkcaldy High School. Aileen made lifesize ragdolls, painted and became a craftworke and then began writing Maisie books in 1982. Ailie Finlay: FRIDAY 11am and 2pm
A storyteller and puppeteer who has been delighting children with her handmade puppets and props for over fifteen years. Ailie specialises in working with children with additional needs and in 2010 was awarded a Scottish Arts Council Storyteller's Bursary to develop a programme of multi-sensory storytelling for children with complex needs. 

   
Claire McNicol tells Scottish and Irish stories including Traveller tales, stories of the seal people, the wee folk and the giants. Many of Claire's stories are combined with songs which range from traditional ballads to participative songs for children. Claire has a fresh and engaging and lively style, which ensures she wins instant rapport with any audience.
   

Eric Brennan: SATURDAY 12noon and 3pm
Eric tells folk and fairy tales and legends from around the world, giving each story a particularly Scottish flavour. Often fantastical, always humorous, Eric’s tales enthral young and old alike. Eric’s engaging and easy manner captivates his audience and encourages participation with a mixture of songs, stories and rhymes.

   

Fergus McNicol: FRIDAY 12.30pm
Fergy loves to tell participative stories for younger audiences with plenty of songs and rhymes to join in with. Fergus’s lively and humorous style engages younger audiences and adults. He also frequently sings songs accompanied by his guitar during performances, which the audience loves to join in with!

   

Lea Taylor: FRIDAY 11am and 2pm
Lea brings her storytelling alive with younger audiences by encouraging active participation with stories and songs. These include Traveller tales, Celtic tales, international tales, fairy tales, wonder stories, environmental stories, peace tales and original stories.

   

Mara Menzies: SUNDAY 1pm and 4pm
Hello, I'm a storyteller from a country called Kenya. I have lots of stories from all over Africa. I wish I could tell stories all day long and I love it when people get dressed up and clap and sing with me. Sometimes I pick people up too. I hope you can come and have fun with me.

   

Mrs Mash: FRIDAY 12 noon and 4pm
The Storytelling Cook.  Tales that nourish, stories that satisfy. Mrs. Mash loves to tell stories about food to younger children; encouraging healthy eating and a love of good food.  Each session includes a good helping of songs, rhymes and participative fun.

   
Sylvia Troon: SUNDAY 11am and 3pm
Sylvia has been inventing and telling stories, drawing and making things ever since her early childhood. Nowadays she enjoys telling Scottish tales, world tales, myths and legends. She continues to tell her own short stories, often accompanied by her own illustrations and puppets with descriptive sound effects.
